Yoga Nidra, Meditation and Relaxation

Relax and Restore + YIN

Unwind your body and relax your mind from the the tensions of everyday stress. In this class, we will focus on practices that support relaxation through different strategies, very gentle yoga movement, meditation, mudra (hand positions), pranayama (breath awareness), yoga nidra (meditative sleep), and restorative yoga. A special feature of this class is Yin yoga, a style of yoga which focuses on stretching the deep connective tissue in the joints. Each pose will be held for approximately 4-5 minutes, enhancing a greater range of motion because of the lengthening of the connective tissue and increased circulation in the joints. Restorative poses are an important part of any long-term yoga practice: they heal the effects of stress, recharge our energy reserves, and bring our nervous systems into a more balanced state. Restorative yoga props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters and straps are used to support the body which allows muscles to fully relax, the mind to quiet, and the spirit to experience peace and restoration. The class will end with a short Yoga Nidra session, built around facilitating deep relaxation and rest through guided meditation while lying in a reclined restorative position. By the end of each class, you will feel relaxed, refreshed, and renewed.

Meditative Relaxation

Relaxation can be defined many ways, and there are many ways to achieve it. In this class, we will focus on practices that support relaxation in different ways through very gentle yoga movement, meditation, mudra (hand positions), pranayama (breath awareness) yoga nidra and guided imagery. Each week we will explore a variety of different practices to promote the relaxation and reduce stress and tension.

Meditation Online- TBA

Seated meditation practice that helps students explore their daily lives. It offers insights into how to live more peacefully and fully. The Latin root of the word meditation, mederi, means “to heal.” In our practice of meditation it does not mean thinking about how to fix the mind but how to be one with it. Meditation is the way to bring us back to ourselves, where we can really experience, explore, and be with ourselves. In stillness and silence of seated meditation, we glimpse and return to that deep inner nature that we have lost sight of in the busyness and distraction of our minds and lives.
