Pranayama is the practice of focused breathing which helps us to clear out or move through physical, mental and emotional obstacles. Prana is the vitality of our breath, our very life force in our physical bodies. It teaches us to control the movement of our minds through awareness. We use our breath as a guide in our meditation practice to create awareness of our physical body, mind, emotions and our connection to spirit. The more awareness we have of our breath, the more we are able to create calmness in our minds and experience a sense of peace that is present in each and every one of us.
Meditation means awareness; whatever you do with awareness is meditation. As long as these activities are free from other distractions to the mind, it can be an effective meditation. In our sessions, we will be working on seated meditation as it is a very efficient way to become aware of our distractions and their influence in our life. Through meditation and stillness of our bodies, we give ourselves information and an opportunity to create a deeper connection to what we feel. This helps to reveal subtle agitations that may be hidden by day-to-day distractions.
Most importantly, pranayama and meditation will significantly improve the quality of your life. The way you practice will influence your perspective of your life and the manner in which you respond to the people around you!
